I’d like to thank my association staff, campaign team, activists and Heene residents for not only being so committed and determined, but for believing in me.
This speaks volumes. I am already out in my local area as of today, working with stakeholders to get a hand of some key promises as part of my pledges.
Quoted from the Worthing Borough Council Facebook page:
The Conservatives have gained a seat in Heene Ward after yesterday’s Worthing Borough Council by-election.
Conservative candidate Luke Houghton was elected with 742 votes. The full list of results are as follows:
Luke Houghton (Conservative) – 742
- Anthony Squires (Labour) – 704
- Trudi Starling (Liberal Democrat) – 133
- Kate Thornton (Green) – 186
- Rejected / invalid – 11
- Turnout – 27%
The seat was previously held by Labour, but had been vacant since Richard Mulholland resigned from his role as councillor in August this year.
The results mean that the council is currently made up of 21 Labour members, 11 Conservatives, two Greens and three Worthing Community Independents.
